Meet Our Pastors

Pastor Philip Heyer

Pastor Philip Heyer, has been on the pastoral staff at St. Stephen's after serving Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church of Otsego, Michigan for ten and a half years. Prior to his service to Peace congregation he was an associate pastor at King and Kings Evangelical Lutheran Church in Garden Grove, California. His service in the public ministry began at Michigan Lutheran High School in St. Joseph, Michigan where he taught Latin and German from 1982 until 1984.

Born in 1956, Pastor Heyer received his pre-ministerial training at the worker training schools of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod, beginning with his high school years spent at Michigan Lutheran Seminary in Saginaw, Michigan. He attended Northwestern College in Watertown, Wisconsin and following graduation moved on to Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, Wisconsin. He was graduated from the Seminary in May of 1982 and entered the public ministry of the WELS that summer, his first assignment being to Michigan Lutheran High School.

Pastor Heyer is married to Kim (Bostrom) who is a native of Watertown, Wisconsin. They have two sons, Joshua and Andrew.

As the adminstrative pastor at St. Stephen's, Pastor Heyer's responsibility is to work together with Pastors Stratman and Wendland in the ministry of the Word and Sacrament, namely the preaching, teaching, and visitation work. Beyond that he is coordinator of St. Stephen's elders, and the stewardship program.
